    Responsibilities & Requirements

    Bring your communications and media relations experience to this strategic role where you will:

    • Develop and manage public relations and strategic communications initiatives to support business objectives for the Cambia family of companies—with a primary focus on the Regence BlueShield Washington market—including brand awareness and engagement objectives for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Establish relationships with key media sources, including local, regional and trade media as appropriate.
    • Serve as media spokesperson specific to market, company and/or issue.
    • Responsible for working with executives and other team members, providing strategic support and mentoring on media and public relations strategies as necessary.  

    Skills and abilities needed for success:

    • Communications expertise in positioning and messaging to support company growth and retention objectives.
    • Previous experience in the health care industry preferred.
    • Ability to distill complex information and effectively communicate messaging and ideas in written and verbal format for stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to generate earned media and establish good working relationships with reporters and editors.
    • Ability to develop and implement strategic media relations and public affairs campaigns plans locally and regionally.
    • Team player, with the confidence and diplomacy to take the lead and guide other departments and/or individuals when necessary.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to creatively approach challenges and projects and to work both independently and in teams effectively for the best possible outcome.
    • Solid knowledge of monitoring effective benchmarks for measuring the growth of the online community, and ability to analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of new initiatives.
    • Strategic yet creative thinker, self-starter, cool under pressure and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Experience in new and emerging communication technology, including digital content, and able to identify new solutions to respond and move messages online.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain and increase professional knowledge of the latest trends, practices, programs, and applications evolving in communications/media/networking.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.

    Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:

    • Strategic Communications Manager would have a bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field and 8 years of experience in communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Essential Functions:

    • Develop and implement strategic communications plans, including public relations, social media, executive positioning and internal communications.
    • Build relationships with local and regional media outlets in order to develop meaningful, dependable relationships.
    • Serve as market primary media spokesperson.
    • Develop and distribute strategic communications materials, including media news releases, op-eds, talking points, social media messaging, position papers and blogs.
    • Manage messages in a rapid response mode with focus on meeting all deadlines.
    • Work closely with business leads and executives to provide strategic communications counsel and support.
    • Write compelling editorial content and socialize it to build brand awareness of company and issues.
    • Provide media training and counseling for management teams charged with responding to issues.
    • Assist with managing company crisis/issue plan across all markets.
    • Manage tracking methodologies to determine progress of programs in responding to issues.
